Then Dave Fusiak got a call from Matt Smith with a name and phone number which led to a very nice replacement drum. Thanks Matt and thanks Dave for passing this along.
Now I have to figure out how to squeeze a small drum brake in the narrow front forks. I am told a Honda CT90 fits in, so that's what I'll try first.

Then we will need a transport to Kitty Hawk, planned is on 6th September, given that the customs have released our bikes.
Has anybody connections/suggestions where to rent a reasonably priced van, which we can return in the Kitty Hawk area?
Or is there anybody going this way who has space left to load three bikes and two persons?

We would like to have a pair of cell phones, mainly for emergency use.
Can they be bought cheaply for use with a prepaid card?
Or has anybody an old one (or two) he could lend us for the time of the run?

Many greetings from Germany
