Wheels Through Time
I was surfin' around on Dale's site last night, found this blog and thought I'd post it. He's got enthusiasm aplenty!

RE: Wheels Through Time
I think Dale is responsible for all that is good about Antique Motorcycles. I have had the pleasure
of his friendship for more than 20 years. When any topic about Antique Motorcycles comes up with Dale, his eyes light up on the FUN part of the bikes. Fun for him is , the history and getting it to run and RIDING IT!!!. I think , Dale e-value-waits a motorcycle on its past history and what its future history , thru riding and preservation will be, and has very little to do with "market value. Just give someone 5 minutes to talk to Dale and they will certainly catch the antique motorcycle bug. |

RE: Wheels Through Time
I will agree. Dale may not be all that is responsible with motorcycling, but he holds the majority of it. I was just at Wheels Through Time again on Friday Night on my way home from Florida. I consider Dale the utmost of friends and am proud to be associated with him. His son Matt spent all Friday night taking friends of ours through the place that had never been there. This was after hosting groups all day. We were there until after Midnight! Sorry for keeping Matt from you Knealie! I am trying to talk Matt into taking a place in the Cannonball, but he says he will just run support!

RE: Wheels Through Time
This past week my brother and I took a trip down from Delaware through VA, WV, NC and TN. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short by three days due to a family emergency but not before we had the opportunity to visit the Wheel through Time Motorcycle Musuem in Maggie Valley,
Anyway, I'm sure that most of you fairly local guys have heard of or been to this musuem but I wanted to share a quck story that was very cool for me.... The museum is mostly filled with old Harley Davidson bikes and memorabilia with some other stuff mixed in. I didn't see any BMW's but if your a motorcycle guy you'll find the museum very cool! Anyway, the place is pretty incredible. What is cool is that apparently all the motorcycles in the museum actually run! The volunteers would walk around the musuem and periodically start up different bikes and even ride a few of them around inside the musuem. We met the owner Dale who asked us what kind of bikes we were riding. We told him BMW's and were astonished with how the conversation then unfolded. He asked us if we had the opportunity to check out the 1942 (?) Harley Davidson XA models. (He had three in the museum) The XA is a horizontally opposed twin with a shaft drive that Harley had built for military use and modeled after BMW's. I think only like 1000 were ever made. Anyway, we told him that we had seen them. Then, amazingly enough he said - "Would you like to ride one?" Uh, HECK YEAH we'd like to ride it! So, he started the think up right off the museum floor, rode it out the back door and met us in the front of the museum. My brother and I each got to ride the thing around their lot! VERY, VERY COOL! The highlight of my trip! Anyway, Dale seemed like a pretty cool guy. He owned a Harley Dealership for 25 years. So, if you get the chance (in the very near future) get down to see this museum. They are closing their doors on November 30th, 2008 and moving to Prescott, Arizona. |
