RIP Penny Kanter
I am saddened to announce the passing of my mother, Penny Kanter, earlier this week.
She was 85 years old and was a great influence in my life. After buying me and my brothers a 50cc minibike when I was in high school, she and my dad told us we would never be allowed to own or ride a motorcycle. Never really understood that, but glad they got us that minibike. Eventually she became more accepting of my motorcycles and would occasionally go for a ride with me in one of my various sidecar rigs I owned over the years. She would talk to strangers on Harleys and ask them if they read American Iron Magazine, one of the motorcycle magazines I publish. I know she was proud of what I do for a living and, as a magazine publisher herself, gave me some good ideas on how to improve the magazines. I will be thinking of her a lot in the next couple of months and miss her very much. I am naming my 1915 Harley after her and will be doing this ride in her memory. #15 Buzz Kanter 1915 Harley in 2010, and 1929 Harley for 2012 Classic Harley fourm Classic Harley info Harley magazine |

My thoughts are with you Buzz, I lost my mom last month and am heading home for the family memorial service today. I will be thinking of your mother over the weekend. I am sure she was a great influence shaping your kind personality, and great work talents. Hang in there, see you in Kitty Hawk.

RE: RIP Penny Kanter
I have always thought that the hardest days of my life will be the ones when I loose my parents. I can't even think about it because it makes me so sad. I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. Naming your motorcycle after her and dedicating your coast to coast odyssey for her is a great way to celebrate her long life on this glorious planet we share.
Go Buzz! |

RE: RIP Penny Kanter
Thanks to all. Leaving for the funeral in a few minutes.
My mother's name was Selma but her nickname was Penny since high school. Wasn't sure what to name my Harley so at dinner last night I asked my 2 brothers, our three wives and 6 kids to vote on Penny or Selma. The final vote was 10 for Selma and 2 for Penny. Most liked the old fashioned name (and her legal name) for such an old motorcycle. So Selma it is. #15 Buzz Kanter 1915 Harley in 2010, and 1929 Harley for 2012 Classic Harley fourm Classic Harley info Harley magazine |
