the new route
just a note ,but the 4 routes on the route page are just some stuff i dug up on the internet, they are only suggestions. if you go to mapquest ,or google maps ,you can plot out all kinds of routes. i was hoping some people would throw some other ideas out there. also something to think about is our sponsors, all of them have been very enthusiastic about this event ,and most are riding in it. i'm positive that if any of our stopovers happened to be at any of our sponsors locations ,then we could surely expect the red carpet treatment and a good old hodown at the very least. i have been assured of this by most of our sponsors and non sponsors too. i myself would like to be able to stop and see some of the sights along the way as well. we need to consider the quality of the country we are riding thru, as well as the road we are riding on.

what about the original route taken by Cannonball through the southwest desert angling up to the northeast ? LA to New York or the general vicinity. sort of along the lines of what is left of route 66.

RE: the new route
There are a lot of people that do this ride across the US every summer on bicycles. They have published routes that bypass the freeways, big hills, etc. Google or a good bookshop or bicycle shop should have lots of info.

RE: the new route
I like the west coast start and hitting sturgis on the way then maybe drop by JP cycle then on to the HD factory, US 20 runs across most of the northern states and has hotels & motels and bars along the way. as far as bad weather like rain (that's why they have rain gear) I don't think will see snow and where ever it lands on the east coast I'm sure we'll get a warm welcome.

RE: the new route
Weather can be a factor on any ride anytime as we know. Coming through the southwest and California desert in late September will be a lot hotter than most people think it will. A lot of the areas will be well over 100 degrees by noon. The stopover in Flagstaff can be in the low 30's in the morning, before leaving for the blast furnace down below. Just offering info for everyone--I have lived and been riding in this area for the last 40+ years---keep hydrated and rested as well as possible.
