Any Rule About Extra Engines?
I heard a rumor of a rumor about the bikes being limited to one engine only and no spares.
Anyone have any information on this? True or false? #15 Buzz Kanter 1915 Harley in 2010, and 1929 Harley for 2012 Classic Harley fourm Classic Harley info Harley magazine |

RE: Any Rule About Extra Engines?
not true. many of the riders will be bringing spare motors. if i can find a spare ,i'll bring one too.i might only use the top end off the spare or the oil pump or the lower end,the mag, maybe the whole thing.who knows? everybody is spending alot of money and time to do this and shouldn't have to sit on the sidelines if they have a major mechanical failure. its all going to come down to how well each rider knows their own engine. you can have the best mechanic in the country, but unless he's riding on the rear fender of your bike ,its just you ,out there all by yourself, with some redneck in a pickup ridin your ass.

RE: Any Rule About Extra Engines?
I would submit then that whatever trophy to be presented at the end of the run, be presented to only a machine that ran it's original starting motor... Lets face it, it's going to be a hard run/race/tour whatever. Most machines might not make it to Dales ! I might be one of them. But I do plan on riding along on another bike if I experience some sort of catastrophic failure on the cannonball bike. The spirit of the run would be compromised if we had guys changing out motors every time they crossed a time zone. If they want to, I say great. But the guy running one motor has all his effort amount to what ?
My view, start with your ride... Should it fail, replace the motor and ride along for the once in a lifetime experience that the event represents. Enjoy the great company of fellow riders and finish on a pre-16 machine... You'll still have plenty of aggrevation along the way... Sawp a cylinder, Ok Swap out a mag, carburator, gear,clutch....sure. Tires, brakes..you bet. And I get the whole safety thing with brakes too... But lets keep the 'official winner' to one who at least completed the ride on a machine that started with the same motor... In the end, we're all winners thanks to Lonnie putting this all together... Thanks for setting that straight. I am hearing all sorts of rumors and half truths and the best way to deal with them is out in the open. Lonnie, as for "a redneck ridin your ass" ... well it sounds like a scene from the movie Deliverance.
