Excelsior Racer 1913
Excelsior / S.C. Racer from 1913 & track racing
Picture taken in the velodrome of Bielefeld/Germany (Banking 49 degree) We also have meetings in the Velodrome of Solingen and Darmstadt in Germany. This tracks have only a banking of 35 degree. The unrestored racer could not be used in on the track, because the condition of the wheels (spokes), oily engine etc. The machines must be in perfect technical condition. When I drove around the track with around 90 km/h, I saw the wheels and spokes bending due to the high g-loads. Don`t ask about the frame! It is a "neck to neck with death" and a experience I don`t like to miss. One lap of a 333m track is covered in 15sec at a speed of 80 km/h ! After 10 minutes you feel every bone of your body. Watch out, there are also many velodromes in the US. May be you are able to do a Meeting of old racers in one of this velodromes. |
