Looking for a mag with gear and mag/motor mount for a 16-17 excelsior small twin. Any leads greatly appreciated. Trying to get a head start on the search.

RE: Mag for Excelsior
Chris, I presume it is a ZEV that you need? I am not up on Excelsiors too much. What degree, and what direction?

RE: Mag for Excelsior
there were one or two on ebay last week I think. Check with Robert Branson, has usually has nice ones, and does good work rewinding them.

regards,
Pete

RE: Mag for Excelsior
I have no idea what one I need for sure. I am still trying to find out all the info myself. I have the motor and all the gears are there except for the one on the mag. Hope to find out and get one so I can start building the frame for it.

Vern. I have a friend who thinks he has an original rack. He is still looking for me. Hope to have an answer from him soon. I will let you know as soon as I can. If he does not then I will get some info from you and make one.

RE: Mag for Excelsior
Hi Paul. You need a Bosch ZEV 45C (clockwise). The gears come up on ebay pretty regularly, try Harborvintage, I think he has some gears. Easyruss might have some, but most of his parts fit the later SuperX bikes. As for the mag, it was also used on some HD bikes, so it will be easier to find than the gear.

Also, there is a Yahoo group for Excelsior owners here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/excelsior_big_x/
Somebody in that group may have some spare parts for you.

regards,
Pete Young
