Wireless Brake Light
just when you thought you've seen everything. here is the maxxon wireless brake light. this smart LED light senses when your bike decelerates and activates the brake light. i saw a video on ebay of this light in action ,and its pretty cool, how it works. and very bright. there are several available on ebay for under 30 bucks. bolt it on and go. these will conform to the regulations ,and pass tech inspection.

RE: Wireless Brake Light
Hello
What a great idea, I'm getting one of those. It does say they are not for use on motorcycles but suspect that is a legal "get out" on their part. You can't change the laws of physics. Someone mentioned about vibrating rear view mirrors. Try sticking on a convex spot mirror on your regular mirror, its pretty amazing what happens, and they only cost a few bucks. I went to the Dixon meet for a short time and talked to some of the Western Cannonballers. At this time, I'd like to change the metaphor from "Herding cats" to herding " Stampeding Whilderbeasts". These guys are still part of the wild west, the last of a breed of motorcyclists raised on tough talk, rough riding, dirty oily hands from fixing their bikes and yet plain good folk and they are very serious in getting their bikes ready for the run. Three Cannonballers are off to the Alturas 3day run Brass cars and pre 16 motorcycles. This is my favorite. This is the Wild West. North Eastern corner of California. High desert with mountains. No city people up here. It truly is a wonderful place. victor |

RE: Wireless Brake Light
I received my MAXON Brake Light on Wednesday. Thursday morning I
Flew to San Jose and rode my road Bicycle 396 miles in 36 hours. I climbed 19,765 feet vertical . There were a couple of us staying together. The rather dim ( for a bicycle light) light came on, over all bumps, all turns, any time I went downhill and as I went uphill with varying cadence. The longest time it stayed off was for about 1 minute . This was on the flattest smoothest road. I went through 3 sets of batteries and after the first 40 miles I had to mount it on the front to not annoy my buddies. Our route was to ride highway 1 from Monterrey to San Louis Obispo and then back. I think the idea is fine but Maxon's execution is very poor. Most Flashing bicycle lights are 10 times brighter and will last 100 hours in that mode. I all ready have brake lights as well as super bright flashers on my Excelsior ,but I thought this was a neat idea so I went for a ride. I also tested the smallest of the three Roll charts and found it to be almost perfect. My speeds on my road bicycle was 7 to 50 MPH. I could read my instructions very well and the wind did not cause any problems. It was foggy, Misty and rained some and the plastic cover worked fine. I am going to re-position my rollers so my paper goes from the 1st to 3rd rollers instead of the 1st to second rollers. Thanks,,,Alan Travis |

RE: Wireless Brake Light
After reading Alan's post and speaking to Victor about the Maxon brake light that he bought, It appears that they are a total flop! I called and spoke to the owner and designer of the Lucid brake light and they are not yet in production. He said that they have done a lot of research and made a few prototypes that are working rather well. They plan to do a little more tweeking and that he expects to have them in production in about 4 weeks. I told him all about the Canonball and he is very excited about getting them done in time. I told him I wanted to be his first customer. He plans to sell them for $59. I think it is perfect for our needs. Dave

RE: Wireless Brake Light
i think the whole idea is flawed. bicycle lights are for bicycles. i'm enjoying building a custom lighting system on my bike.
