That looks like an awesome route. It takes in some great countryside that's for sure! RE: route 4 - jurassic - 09-12-2009 11:25 AM i dont know if there are any back roads that will get us to the factory museum, and then where to catch the ferry after that.google maps is a great help, i gotta research more. RE: route 4 - jurassic - 09-12-2009 06:25 PM if you go to the routes page and click on route 4 ,it'll bring up more specifics, this is only a preliminary portland to portland route,,we may need to change stopovers ,and add a few days, but its looking like a good contender for the cannonball RE: route 4 - cory - 09-13-2009 11:34 PM (09-12-2009 11:25 AM)jurassic Wrote: i dont know if there are any back roads that will get us to the factory museum, and then where to catch the ferry after that.google maps is a great help, i gotta research more. I wonder if a fella should check with Herb on the Wisconsin backroads. I haven't been there since I was a youngster and I bet he knows all the side roads well. RE: route 4 - jurassic - 09-13-2009 11:58 PM you know an idea i have is having the stopover near milwaukee, then we can bus all the guys to the museum and other sites.kinda sucks ,but we wont have to ride into the city.i wonder how bruce did it. I'm not positive about this but I seem to remember something about a route into the city in the Antique Club mag. I'll dig the copy out tomorrow night and have a look. I think off the top of my head though that he was a trooper and just went for it! RE: route 4 - Tommo - 09-14-2009 02:22 AM Lonnie when we were there in 2003 on 1920's bikes we overnighted in Madison and when we left there we got onto a rural road that paralleled I94 on its south side and crossed over I94 to get to Oconomowoc. The Harley dealer there had a local take us by rural roads and lesser used streets right up to Harleys doors at Juneau Ave. It was a piece of cake and the other thing we found was that as long as any local Police Chief knew what was going on they bent over backwards to help. Escorts through towns, down freeways, etc, etc, etc. I think a thing like this would get a lot of support from City Hall and the Law so long as they knew what was going on. Tommo RE: route 4 - silentgreyfello - 09-14-2009 09:11 AM Here on the west coast, it would be neat to start at the Pacific Ocean, but would add about 70 miles from starting inland at Portland. There are a couple of routes that follow the Columbia River that the scenery is out of this world, especially the Columbia River Gorge. I'll take a closer look at the Route 4... I have made so many trips from the Portland/Vancouver area where I now live back home to the Black Hills area that I can't count them. I have never done it on an old bike, though. Changes the perspective a little bit!
