Looks like we have a final route defined and presented here on this forum. So we're riding East to West from Kitty Hawk, NC to Santa Monica, CA? Sound like fun.
I have never ridden a bike this old before (oldest up to now is my 1924 Harley) and never ridden an old bike this far before (rode my 1947 Knucklehead from Connecticut to Milwaukee and back for Harley's 95th) Can't wait to start!
for those that did not get the email the route has since been tweaked a little to cut down on daily mileage, and get us into the LA area on sunday.the new tentative route is on the route page. just a note, the route will probably be tweaked several times before summer.on the first course run in march we will get a much better idea of exactly which roads will be utilized ,and what part of town each stopover will be in. john classen will be running the route day for day and personally checking out all the overnight cities and hotels,as well as checking into planned road construction projects . after the second course run in july most everything should be locked in.
my wife and i are riding down to kittyhawk to see you all off on your great adventure. have you established the specific location for the staging area and starting line in kittyhawk?
are the officials, rider's and crews generally staying in the same hotel, ie... is there a "headquarters" location established?
if the race committee needs volunteers on location during the pre-start preps, for anything at all, we are arriving kittihawk tues night 9/7, and will be available for taskings! i'm not riding in the race, but in any small way want to be a part if this incredible event. i'm not used to watching from the sidelines for things like this. it will be hard for me to just stand around with my hands in my pockets! see y'all there!
