Hy guys I am trying to develope a retrieval sidecar for this ride. I would like some info from the compiditors.
What I'm asking for is: tire and wheel size, and a measurement from axle to axle (wheel base).
How much will your rig weigh with-out the rider?
What kind of gas will these bikes use, unleaded or leaded (will you need to mix your own)?
If you would please take some time for me, it would surely help.
You can contact me off line.

Gary, I just measured some bikes for your reference.
1915 HD twin w/ three speed (not including the sidecar):
Wheelbase (axel to axel) is roughly 60".
Weight 331 pounds.
Though I am not riding the following, this is for reference:
1912 HD single belt drive:
Wheelbase: 57"
Weight: 200 pounds
Both 1910 and 1911 singles are same wheelbase as 1912, but weigh about 190 pounds. I guess the rear freewheel hub is the difference.
Did you know that the 2-speed hub assy for 1914 when laced up in a wheel, with tire, weighs 49 pounds?!!! Matt Smith laced mine up for me and as I was carrying it to my truck, I thought it was heavy, so I weighed it when I got home. 49 POUNDS!
Hello Gary,
My 1914 Excelsior may be the smallest and lightest of the big twins.
It has a 54 inch wheelbase and weighs 196 pounds. The tires are 28 x 3 which translates into a bike that is 6 foot 10 inches long.
Thanks Alan Travis

Alan, Thanks for taking the time to measure and weigh these bikes. It will be a great help.

Hi Gary
Some of the bikes weights add up to what some people use for sidecar ballast
say hi to Chris for me

Hi Chuck, Your right about bike weight &ballist. We know this by being sidecarists. But what some don't understand is , these retrieval rigs will be ridden mostly(we hope), empty . No bike on them. So when there is a disabled bike on the sidecar, balist is not a problem. It's the other times , when the rig is empty he have a handling issue.
But with the design I have we have taken all that into account.
