Too bad this endeavour wouldn't be done in a charitable vein. A "panoramic" or yardlong picture taken at the start with all the contestants in period clothing . Spin off books etc. all profits sold for a charity in memory of the type of philanthropy exhibited by Steve McQueen . As you said Lonnie, it was Steve's buddy Bud Ekins who pushed you to do this so why not honour them and raise a positive profile for our hobby rather than portraying ourselves as a bunch of rich self centred types.
PS Even if you don't go down the egalitarian path you should do the panoramic at the start and the finish although the latter may not be as long.
JUST A FEW SUGGESTIONS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY
Sign me up for a Yardlong !

Great idea!
for starters we have been talking with various riders ,and charities to set up some type donation system where each rider can ride for their favorite charity, with a certain amount pledged {by whom?}for each mile an entrant rides.this is only a thought and has not been implemented yet.although i'd like to see it happen,i have no idea how to get it done, nor the time or money to do it. as for the yardlong panoramic photo ,i am way ahead of you. mike lichter ,our official photographer, and i have been dicussing this for some time.most likely on sept. 9th we will be taking this picture on the beach in kitty hawk.this may be the only chance in 90 years anyone will get to do a true motorcycle panoramic, and we aren't going to miss it.
great pic bill.this photo makes me think.we really need to push the period clothing issue. everyone needs at least one set of early gear ,and maybe their sunday best for pics like this. i counted about 60 bikes in that panoramic ,so thats about what ours should look like.
Oh, Yeah!
I'm going to want one of those for sure. Just make sure that when you take the picture, that an Excelsior is clearly visable front and center. Since they were the best pre 16s built.

Lonnie, I agree...period clothing would be great for a photo...Guys can start calling Mike Merling @ http://www.goldenagemotorcycleclothing.com/
to set up getting jodhpurs, boot, puttees or anything else... I will post a few pics of period clothing shots from Harley soon..
I'm not sure of the extra cost that the clothing will incur, but if enough guys order the same style...maybe he can give a discount D'oh!

Love the photo idea. Mike Lichter is an old friend and will take the best photos anyone could.

Looking forward to Sept., but still need to do lots to get ready. Thanks again for doing this Lonnie. It's going to be amazing![attachment=131]
